What is the TTBIS?

Preserving the data of the protected areas of Trinidad and Tobago

The TTBIS is a national archive of biodiversity data on Trinidad and Tobago. It manages, stores, searches, retrieves published, and presents data about the country’s biodiversity, their relationships, and their interaction with the environment of Trinidad and Tobago.

The EPPD

The Environmental Policy and Planning Division falls under the Ministry of Planning and Development, Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. The EPPD was established in 2002 as part of government’s sustainable development efforts. The primary mission of the Environmental Policy and Planning Division is to ensure that there is a balance between Government’s efforts to increase the pace of socio-economic development and the need to ensure conservation of Trinidad and Tobago’s natural resources. This is the heart of sustainable development and is the foundation of the mission, programmes and projects undertaken by the Division.

Goal

The goal of the TTBIS is to provide access to GIS information and Datasets collected on the Protected Areas from Trinidad and Tobago.

TTBIS Management

TTBIS Funding

The Trinidad and Tobago Biodiversity Information System (TTBIS) was produced through the “Improving Forest and Protected Area Management in Trinidad and Tobago” project. Financing was provided by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (GORTT), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO/UN), the European Union (EU) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
